Larson Music Lab — A Monthly Ensemble Experience for Adult Guitarists
Larson Music Lab is a unique, community‑driven ensemble program created for adult guitarists in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati who want to grow their musicianship in a supportive, real‑world playing environment. Designed and led by award‑winning guitarist and educator Lou Larson, the Lab meets on the first Tuesday of every month and brings together a small group of players—typically six guitarists and one bassist—to explore rhythm, harmony, improvisation, and ensemble skills in a structured but relaxed setting.
Inspired by the “lecture + lab” format used in university music programs, Larson Music Lab blends focused instruction with hands‑on application. Each session introduces a musical concept—groove, comping, chord tones, improvisation strategies, ensemble communication—and then immediately puts it into practice with a live group arrangement. Students learn not only what to play, but how to listen, respond, and contribute musically within a group.
The Lab is built especially for adult learners, many of whom started guitar later in life and want a place to develop confidence, musicianship, and community. Every session is structured to be welcoming, low‑pressure, and musically rewarding. Players consistently report major improvements in timing, feel, chord vocabulary, improvisation, and overall musical awareness.
Whether you’re working on jazz standards, blues forms, rhythm‑section skills, or improvisation, Larson Music Lab gives you the rare opportunity to play with others, learn collaboratively, and experience the joy of making music in a real ensemble. It’s one of the most effective—and enjoyable—ways to grow as a guitarist.
